of one of the most extensive economic downturns in our country’s existence, that we are poised to respond in an effective and significant way to help serve the over two hundred thousand (200,000) Virginians that utilize our programs.
To meet the challenges of slow economic growth, high unemployment, battles over deficit reduction and spending and the aging of the baby boomers we have to employ sound business management strategies and practices.
We must ensure that we have the best managed housing organizations in the country. This requires that we invest in human capital and develop a continued education mindset within our organizations and the communities that we serve. To achieve this objective VAHCDO will continue to be a leader in bringing the most appropriate and meaningful training to our members.
We also must be committed to diversifying our housing portfolios to more than just Public Housing and Section 8. In an era where funding is being reduced and regulations are mounting we must look to expand and/or redirect our service delivery models to address the changing economic and political environment. We must take a long term approach, and augment our strategic plans and goals to be ready for the new realities.
I encourage each of you to share the great things happening with your organizations and the people you serve. Submit articles and pictures for inclusion in our award-winning newsletter, the VAHCDO Review, or for posting on our website at www.vahcdo.org.
“Together we can make a difference in the lives of Virginians”.
Sincerely,
